AERIALISTS

Aerialists meld their ferociously creative harmonic sensibilities and deep love of folk traditions into a post-rock-tinged prog/trad sound. Drawing from the wells of Nordic and Gaelic music while adding expansive modernist textures, this transatlantic quintet takes audiences on “a deep listening and thought-provoking journey, chock full of high-end musicianship”(Exclaim!).

MOONDLE

Magic realism meets jazz-inflected indie pop: inspired by the writings of Jorge Luis Borges, Vancouver’s Moondle navigates dreamy sonic labyrinths, enchanting libraries of real and made-up languages, and lush, imaginative musical interplay. At turns wistful and transcendent, Moondle opens the mind and uplifts the soul. Emma Postl vocals, Thomas Hoeller guitar, Cary Campbell guitar, Eli Davidovici bass, Mili Hong drums.

Mili Hong is a Montreal-based Korean drummer who has been playing various styles of music for over a decade including jazz, pop, improvised music, rock, and folk. Her ability to adapt sensitively to music, with a wide range of dynamics, allows her to express a wide range of emotions and be connected more deeply with the bands she collaborates with.

Her standards trio, consisting of David Blake on guitar and Eli Davidovici on bass, focuses on an array of classic Jazz compositions and songs from the American songbook. Expect an evening of spontaneity and unexpected takes on the songs that Jazz fans and practitioners of the tradition will know well, with a nod to composers that have a special influence on the band, including Thelonius Monk, Duke Ellington, and Cole Porter.

Bio
-------------------------

From an early age Deniz Lim-Sersan was learning piano on the lap of his mother. Exposed to the traditional rhythms and melodies of the Balkans through his father and classical music from his mother, the early fusion of musical influences naturally lead Deniz to jazz music. Enamored with the improvisation and creative process in jazz, Deniz pursued music receiving his Bachelor’s in Performance from Humber College in 2016 studying keyboard and later attended the Banff International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music in 2017 under the direction of Vijay Iyer.

To Deniz the mastery of music has always been a pursuit of expression, a venture into art and spirituality. Deniz’s artistic process is unique and brings a depth of experience that enriches the musical experience of any project.
